Belmont’s Adreanna Parlette Qualifies For Olympic Long Jump Trials

Belmont Track and Field athlete Adreanna Parlette is headed to Eugene, Oregon to compete in the long jump at this month’s U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. She is the first Belmont active track and field athlete, male or female, to qualify for the Olympic Trials. The trials will take place on June 24 at 7:45 p.m. CST on NBCSN.

Parlette, a Nashville native, will be one of 24 athletes competing in the long jump in this year’s Trials.  The top three finishers earn a spot on the United States team and will head to Tokyo for the Summer Olympics in July.

“The biggest thing with this all is that I am just glad I listened to the direction God was calling me,” says Parlette.  “Specifically, I am glad that He directed me to Belmont and that I trusted Him 100%. I am grateful for both the cold and warm moments leading me up to this point because it truly took both letdowns and joys to reach this moment in happiness. I truly am excited and while I can sit and enjoy this moment I know that I still have work to do and that I am not done yet! “

Parlette was named OVC Female Field Athlete of the Year at the 2021 OVC Championships after winning the long jump, taking second in the heptathlon, finishing fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, and earning a seventh place finish in the high jump.

 

 

Neyland Stadium To Open At Full Capacity In The Fall

Neyland Stadium will be open at full capacity when the University Tennessee Volunteers start their season, marking the stadiums centennial anniversary.

“I know our fans are eager to experience the rich pageantry of Tennessee football gamedays again, and they’re going to have an exciting brand of football to rally around,” says Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Danny White. “This will be my first football season at Tennessee, and after witnessing the power of Vol Nation during our recent baseball postseason run, I cannot wait to see the impact of our fans giving their all in a packed Neyland Stadium.”

Ticket mini-plans for the 2021 season are on sale now at AllVols.com. Fans can customize their mini-plan by selecting any four games in a variety of sections for one price. Home games include Bowling Green (Sept. 2), Pittsburgh (Sept. 11), Tennessee Tech (Sept. 18), South Carolina (Oct. 9), Ole Miss (Oct. 16), Georgia (Nov. 13), South Alabama (Nov. 20) and Vanderbilt (Nov. 27).

 

 

Lipscomb’s Shane Streich Breaks Record At NCAA Track & Field Championships

Lipscomb Track & Field star Shane Streich finishes his 2021 season with a sixth-place finish in the 800m run at the NCAA Track & Field Championships. Streich’s time of 1:46.70 breaks his own school record that he set earlier this season on June 11.

In the semifinals, Streich posted the third-fastest time of the three heats and ran a 1:47.28. He was joined by Lipscomb teammate Jonathan Stride in the semifinals but Stride failed to make the finals after posting a 1:49.07 in the 800m.

Streich had one of the best seasons in Lipscomb Track & Field history setting school records in both the 800m and 1500m runs in addition to winning ASUN Scholar Athlete of the Year and ASUN Men’s Outdoor Championship Most Outstanding Track Athlete awards.
